Links that I would have put in part-2 if I had room...
A section of my web page, look in "Computer, Net Security table. My collection of links that I have used in the past to figure out who the bad guys are, and when to duck.

This is a new one, Good starting point for IE 6 basic security
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/using/howto/security/settings.asp

http://toppingm.home.mchsi.com/mainlist.htm#net

A little more on my page, scroll down some to "Evaluating Inet Information". These references are good for figuring who to trust. Lot of common sense, but some is likely new to many folks.
http://toppingm.home.mchsi.com/reading.htm

Pretty old, but probably the most complete explanation of how the IE security settings work, and what the settings mean.
www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/using/howto/security/setup.asp

A good little listing of current events on what has gone wrong on the technology front.
Some of it can be pretty technical, or pretty funny, or just plain scary.

List of country codes. (if the end of the domain name is not .com .org .gov .edu... in fact, if it is any 2 letter code, it is a web page from another country. Not necessarily bad, but nice to know who you are talking to. Of course, lots of foreign sites have US sponsoring hosts that mask their source.

So, if you want to block all Iraqi and North Korean sites, like putting them in the restricted zone, how to do that? Well look here. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q184/4/56.ASP

Did I mention in the article how important it is to keep your software updated? Well, it is. Yes Microsoft is a little abusive in that they are always trying to get more and more control of your computer. But when a vulnerability is published, and all the "crackers" know about it, it is pretty risky to leave the hole on your system. Check the "Downloads" (updates, patches, service packs...) here. (and if you have a question, look in the "Knowledge base").

Unsafe file extensions (those recognized by IE 6 anyway)

To see a list of ALL the file extensions. With a little about what they relate to. http://whatis.techtarget.com/fileFormatA/0,289933,sid9,00.html

Oh, if you want to use my webpage for more general stuff, it is just http://www.mtopping.com
but I would prefer you not pass this around too widely. It is just my private page for friends and club members.
